Detergent (do not eat this)

Here are the instructions for making a basic do-it-yourself (DIY) laundry detergent. It is super easy and I love it! You can find all the ingredients at Walmart, usually on the same shelf:

  • 1 box Borax
  • 1 box Washing Soda
  • Soap bars -- Fels Naptha, Ivory, etc. (I prefer the 8-pk of Ivory bars located in the soap aisle.)
  1. Grate, cuisinart, or blend 1 bar of soap and mix with 1 cup of Borax and 1 cup of Washing Soda.
  2. Store in a container.
  3. Use one tablespoon per load. For heavy stains, use an extra teaspoon.

Tips: Add 1/2 cup baking soda to the wash to remove odors and fight stains. Add white vinegar in the softener compartment to soften clothes, disinfect, remove soap residue.

(Note: It comes out to about two cents per load versus twenty cents.)
